Star toadflax is a little herb that grows in a variety of open, dry habitats such as dry prairies, rocky or gravelly bluffs and slopes, savannas, or open woodlands. It thrives on well-drained sandy soil in mixtures of prairie species. It is a harmless root parasite, relying on other species for nutrients and water.
